Fortaleza do Beliche

The economic importance of the fishing frame (almadrava) located in Beliche inlet motivated the construction of a fortress whose main objective was to protect fishermen from attack by pirates and corsairs. This fortress was seriously damaged by the attack by the privateer Francis Drake in 1587 and by the earthquake of 1755, having been deactivated in the 19th century and restored for tourist purposes in the 20th century.

Fortaleza de Sagres

The imposing fortification of Sagres is the human extension of the natural rock and was for centuries the main battleground of a geo- strategic maritime defensive system.

Praia do Alemão (Beach)
