Il Presepio (Christmas Nativity
Scene)
The
2021
Nativity
Scene
on
display
in
St.
Peter's
Square
originates
from
Huancavelica
(Perú),
from
the
village
of
Chopcca.
The
characters
in
the
nativity
scene,
built
with
materials
and
clothing
typical
of
these
territories,
represent
the
Andean
peoples
and
symbolize the universal call to salvation.
Next
to
the
nativity
scene,
there
is
the
majestic
fir tree in the Andalo forests, in Trentino.
Basilica San Pietro
The
imposing

facade

Maderno
conveys
the
exceptional
size
of
the
Basilica,
still
one
of
the
largest
churches
in

world.
Entering
the
Basilica,
in
the
first
chapel
of
the
right
aisle,
you
can
admire
the
most
famous
masterpiece
of
San
Pietro,
Michelangelo's
Pietà.
At
the
centre
of
the
Basilica,
above
the
papal
altar,
stands
Bernini's
bronze
canopy,
commissioned
by
Urbano
VIII
Barberini, with the huge twisted columns.
